1 YEAR Graduate Certificate In Gestalt Therapy
Year 1
Year 1 provides an introduction to the core concepts, principles and history of Gestalt therapy. This year of study will provide students with a group-learning environment where they can grow in self-awareness of the ways in which they interact with others. Students will observe the methodology of Gestalt therapy as a relational, phenomenological, experiential and field sensitive modality. This first year can be completed as a Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy. Graduates will be invited to continue for a further three years and will be eligible for the Master of Gestalt Therapy or Graduate Award of Clinical Gestalt Therapy. The Master of Gestalt Therapy requires undergraduate qualifications or their equivalent.
Graduate Certificate Year 1 Schedule:
- 4 Weekends (Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday)
- 16 weeks Tutorials on Friday mornings 10-1
- 2 X 3 day Residentials in July & November
- 10 Individual therapy sessions
- 35 hrs Study Group
Continue your training into Year 2 of the Master of Gestalt Therapy
Year 2 develops and deepens the knowledge and understanding of the theory that underpins Gestalt therapeutic practice. Students are supported and challenged to deepen their understanding of Gestalt theory and methodology, and to compare and synthesise this knowledge with contemporary developments in the broader field of psychotherapy . Students develop their communication and counselling skills by engaging in one-on-one and group practicums.
Year 3
Year 3 places increased importance on working with clients in a clinical setting. It introduces students to the particulars of diagnosis and treatment from a Gestalt therapy perspective. Mental health issues and work with people in different clinical populations are explored. Specific interventions and processes for working with clients and the importance of professional ethics are emphasised. Trainees will continue to practice their one-to-one and group therapy skills and analysis of therapeutic work.
Year 4
Year 4 extends students understanding of a specific clinical area of focus, and the literature informing contemporary practice. Students will engage in an area of their choice either through a 5,000 Literature Review (Master of Gestalt Therapy) or a 3,000 assignment (Advanced Certificate of Clinical Gestalt Therapy). In addition, students pay regard during this year to working with specific clinical issues, couples and families and organisations. Year 4 address professional practice and supervision issues and Students are provided with the appropriate support to commence therapeutic practice or human service work from a Gestalt perspective.
Gestalt Therapy Sydney embraces a contemporary relational approach to psychotherapy. This philosophy is embedded in the delivery and underlying ethos of the training. We aim to create a rich, engaging, academic and dialogic approach to adult learning.
Faculty is available to provide individual support to trainees and group sizes are limited to 16.
