Trainees are required to review this literature and in particular research based literature in the counselling and psychotherapy domain and to demonstrate a capacity to analyse journal articles related to counselling and psychotherapy theory and practice. Close attention is paid to research studies aimed at furthering knowledge of the effectiveness of Gestalt therapy and other theoretical approaches with particular client groups in specific settings. Particular regard will be paid to Common Factors literature and neuroscience as it applies to counselling and psychotherapy.
Trainees will also be introduced to research methods and will be expected to demonstrate familiarity with the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
